LISD Literacy Partners helps LISD students acheive at-level reading through one-on-one reading sessions with a child.  Local research shows that children are four times more likely to drop out of school if they are not reading at level by 3rd grade. Help LISD's Literacy Partners program achieve this goal for our students by reading with a child. Visieducation-connection.org for more information.

The LISD Science Materials Center creates and maintains science kits that allow every elementary student in LISD to experience science in a hands-on, minds-on way. Volunteers can help in the processes of SMC kit building and refurbishing. If interested, contact Brenda Howard at 512-570-0277.

The "Parents as Teachers" Program equips parents with the skills to be teachers at home. PAT instructors work with parents and children from birth to age four, to nurture school readiness. The program also provides center-based activities such as family playgroups, baby/toddler sing & sign, parent workshops, and preschool classes.  Volunteers can help support quarterly Family Event Nights such as Trunk-or-Treat, Winter Party and Family Olympics. If interested, call 512-570-0320.
